Franklin Foods, Inc. has been issued its seventh patent from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for Yogurt Cheese Products. Patent number 8,247,015 has been issued to inventors Jon Gutknecht and John Ovitt. The timeliness of the seventh patent approval for Yogurt Cheese Products correlates with a growing demand within institutional channels for lowfat ingredients to help reduce the fat, calories and cholesterol in mainstream consumer packaged goods. This demand is due to rising obesity rates and consumers continued desire for healthier food alternatives.

Franklin Foods beats powerhouse brands Alouette, Rondele and Kraft in the Flavored Spreadable Cheese Category at the 29th biennial 2012 World Championship Cheese Contest held in Madison, Wisonsin on March 5-7. For more than 50 years the World Championship Cheese Contest is the world's premiere expert evaluation and contest for cheese and butter. The Green Mountain Farms Garlic & Herb Spreadable Cheese finished 2nd, and long time category leader Alouette Garlic & Herb finished 12th. Green Mountain Farms Salsa Cream Cheese finished in 3rd Place. Also, Green Mountain Farms 8oz. Cream Cheese Bars scored 96.0 out of 100, placing it in the Top 5 of Spreadable Cheeses in the world, and just .60 points behind 2nd Place Winner Kraft's Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
